Time Stamping
Time stamping services help organizations reduce the potential liability associated with time-sensitive transactions by providing a long term validation and non-repudiation of the time and date a transaction took place, using standards-based implementation that is easily recognizable and compatible.
Time stamping is an important mechanism for the long-term preservation of digital signatures, time sealing of data objects to prove when they were received, protecting copyright and intellectual property and also for the provision of notarization services.
Timestamp is a sequence of characters or encoded information identifying when a certain event occurred, usually giving date and time of day, sometimes accurate to a small fraction of a second. The term derives from rubber stamps used in offices to stamp the current date, and sometimes time, in ink on paper documents, to record when the document was received.
Adding a trusted timestamp to code or an electronic signature provides a digital seal of data integrity and a trusted date and time of when the transaction took place. Recipients of documents and code with a trusted timestamp can verify when the document or code was digitally or electronically signed, as well as verify that the document or code was not altered after the date the timestamp vouches for.
India PKI is working closely with other Certifying Authorities (CA) in India to provide popularize the adoption of Timestamping services in India.
